Joomla is a mess! It looks like it started off being simple and clean, and then features were just added and added with complete disregard for consistency. It is one of the most advanced CMSs for empowering the novice user, but at the same time is horribly messy underneath. -
Convenience, Functionality

I'm a web designer and have worked with Joomla virtually since its creation. Working with Joomla is like putting a plug in a socket: you might only want to power a toaster right now, but the potential of what you can do is limitless. Joomla is a very solid CMS powered by a strong and multiplying community. It's not as intuitive as might be hoped for (though this gets better with each version), but you can't approach a professional CMS like you would Outlook Express. I like Joomla because it allows me to easily set up a website, easily maintain the website, and add functionality at any time through addons. Joomla is high-quality open source software. -
Not bad, but not great either

Given it has a huge community, loads of templates, loads of plugins it falls short on a few points. To create content and documents is an odd affair and not straightforward as would be expected, with no one clear way to do so. The learning curve is steep in comparison to other CMS' on the market. Also churns out tables where you least expect them, making your div based xhtml/css layouts break... Try porting a basic html site into this and you'll see. -
Simple and Easy BUT POWERful

Joomla is very simple and easy to use and to learn. It's the best CMS to use when you want to delegate certain parts of the site to different article writers that don't know HTML, php, etc.
Joomla is much more secure compared to Mambo and most of the security holes discovered are discovered by the security team themselves (that means its NOT full of security holes).
Some features are not included in the default package but are available through the EXCELLENT extensions directory. -
Joomla is Easy to Use, Secure, Well Supported

Joomla is very powerful, easy to use, and extremely well supported by its developers and 3rd party folks. There are over 700 extensions for Joomla that enable you to add almost any kind of functionality you can think of. Joomla developers are very security aware and are very prompt about issuing security updates.
Even if you are not a PHP, CSS, XHTML wizard you can build an attractive full featured site with Joomla.
